KARACHI: Most parts of the city were submerged in darkness due to an electricity breakdown last night. After more than five hours of pitch black dark, electricity was restored around 5.30 am.
Ranchor Line, Lyari, Usmanabad, Hassan Lashkari Village, Garden, Shoe Market, Empress Market and Sultanabad were among the most affected areas. I.I.Chundrigar Road, Governor House, C.M. House and Civil Hospital’s electricity supply was also cut off due to this electricity breakdown.
Various areas of Defence, Clifton and Lyari also remained without electricity. Garden, P.E.C.H. Society, Ranchor Line and Jacob Line areas also experienced shortage of electricity. The residents of the area also came out to protest at the Boat Basin area.
The city’s extra high-tension line tripped at midnight causing the breakdown, which stopped the supply of electricity to areas in the Southern District. However, Karachi Electric (KE) spokesperson Fakhar Ahmad said that the breakdown was not due to the tripping of a high-tension wire but because of the malfunctioning of a grid station on Queens Road. After five hours of the breakdown, electricity had been completely restored in the affected areas.
