ISLAMABAD – Head of Internal Affairs Parliamentary Committee Maryam Aurangzeb has said that the decision to postpone the census had been taken with consensus among provincial representatives.
Talking to BBC, she said that this time at least one lac troops were required to complete the census in Pakistan as the army had provided security during the entire process since 1951 to 1998.
She said if government wanted to neglect census, it would have neither allocated Rs 140 million in the budget for it, nor given this plan. She said that the government temporarily postponed census as Pakistan was passing through exceptional circumstances.
To a question, she said that the new date for census would be announced after consultations with all stakeholders.
